Nonlinear Analysis of Seismically Isolated Bridges with Inverted - T Cap
نویسندگان
چکیده
Seismically isolated bridges with inverted T-cap beams are not investigated in depth until now. Elastic response spectrum analysis is typically preferred in design of bridges. In this study, it has been demonstrated that elastic response spectrum analysis may not be the right analysis tool to design bridges with inverted T cap beams since pounding effects are ignored. Pier design forces determined from response spectra analysis may be signifi cantly lower than the pier seismic forces determined from non-linear time history analysis performed with response spectrum compatible earthquake records. The purpose of this study is to suggest a nonlinear analysis guideline to check the design forces determined from response spectra analysis. Pounding may be mitigated by providing new design details.

DEVELOPMENT OF RELATION FOR THE SEISMICALLY BASE ISOLATED STRUCTURES USING MODIFIED ABC ALGORITHM
In this paper, the effective parameters on the ductility demand of the seismically base isolated structure are investigated, and then a relation between the strength reduction factor and the target ductility is presented. The investigation has been conducted by modelling the base isolated structure as a two degree of freedom model in the OpenSees software, and the possibility of yielding in the...
متن کاملA methodology for Determining the Seismic Vulnerability of Old Concrete Highway Bridges by Using Fragility Curves
Past earthquakes have demonstrated that old RC bridges may be seismically vulnerable. Bridge responses during the last decades illustrated the necessity of the seismic assessment of bridges especially those which were designed with old codes. In this research an existing concrete bridge representative of the most common bridges in the highway system in Iran are studied. Push over and nonlinear ...
متن کاملLife-cycle Cost Analysis for the Seismic Isolation of Bridges in a Region of Low to Moderate Seismicity
A nonlinear approach for the life-cycle cost (LCC) analysis is proposed. Computational procedure for the analysis of LCC for seismically isolated bridges in a region of low to moderate seismicity is established. To compute the failure probability of critical structural components, most probable failure modes for the structure-isolator system are defined as unseating failure of a superstructure,...
متن کاملComparison of the Progressive Collapse Resistance of Seismically Designed Steel Shear Wall Frames And Special Steel Moment Frames
In this study, the progressive collapse potential of seismically designed steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems is investigated using the alternate path method, and their performances are compared with those of the conventional special moment frame (SMF) systems. Nonlinear static and dynamic analyses are conducted to follow the progressive collapse of the structures, and their ability of absorb...
متن کاملCorrelation of Earthquake Ground Motion and the Response of Seismically Isolated Bridges
The seismic response of bridges seismically isolated by lead-rubber bearings (LRB) to earthquake excitations of different magnitudes is presented in this thesis. The force-deformation behavior of LRB is considered as bilinear. The specific purpose of the study is to assess the effect of seismic isolation on the peak response of bridges subjected to different base accelerations ranging from 0.05...
